Marlique Ridho Hafiedz Signature Series : Orange Twister

I've owned this guitar for about 10 months now, and all I can say is Wow, what an axe! From the moment I pulled it out of the case it was love at first sight. The finish is top notch, the action nice and low, and the pickups do a fine job of it.

I play alot of metal (in the vain of The Haunted, Opeth and Soilwork), but at home I also like to dabble with my first love which is old blues (Little Walter, Howling wolf and Buddy Guy).

I was looking for a guitar that could do a better job on the metal side of things, as the guitars I have are all kind of suited to older styles. I have an old Telecaster and an Aussie built Hollowbody plus a Jap Strat, so I was looking for something with humbuckers and a floyed rose bridge plus a fast but meaty neck. I played around with a few Jacksons and Ibanez guitars, plus a hand full of ESP's and most of them I found to be fine instruments. I had settled on a ESP KH202, which was a very nice axe, and it would have done the job. but while i was saving the cash for that, i came across a review for a Marlique Deluxe Series on harmony-central that got me curious and I did a little more digging and found the Ridho Hafiedz guitars. the more i looked into it the more it seemed to be the one for me, it had the goods i was after (humbuckers/floyed rose plus the fact that it was a unique instrument in the looks department). I looked around for a seller in Oz, and found that Erik Guitars had this orange one.

I am not usually one to buy guitars that I haven't tried, let alone buying guitars online, so I felt I was jumping in the deep end a little with this. however Erik was extremely helpful with email communications, answering all my questions about the guitar, and so we struck an awesome deal and a short time later she was in my hands. Since that time the love I have for this instrument has grown. The tonal qualities are friggin' amazing! And as other people have mentioned in other reviews the harmonic qualities of this guitar are deeply satisfying. I have never played a guitar that so easily pulls off harmonic squeals and pinches. It is not just in the normal areas (1st - 7th fret area), it's all over the bloody place. The sustain is quite phenomenal for a Floyed Rose equip guitar aswell. As I have already mentioned the quilted maple finish is top notch and the inlay and fret work looks fantastic, as well as the binding and the overall craftsmanship of the guitar is of a very high standard. The Tesla pick ups are alot better than I expected them to be aswell, originally I was going to change them to Seymour Duncan JB's and 59's but have since decided against it, as they do everything I ask of them and are very responsive to picking styles. Playing with the volume and tone controls bring a wide variety of usable tones. The coil tapping is just the icing on the cake, and unlike a few of the other coil tapped guitars I have played in stores, The system works very well. Also I must say the pick ups are very very quiet, no humming, or popping when using the toggle.

As far as amps and effects go, I run this guitar through a Genz Benz El Diablo 100W head and a G Flex 4/12 quad, and the rare times when I do use effects I use an AX10G Toneworks unit. The range of sounds I get from this set up are amazing. I found myself using my other guitars less and less for the blues and rock stuff I play as I can rely on the good old trusty twister.

So in closing, you cannot go wrong with these guitars as my belief is they play and sound better than guitars at twice their price. Do yourself a favour and get your hands on one!

Just a side note about Erik Guitars, the man was immensely helpful and very professional indeed from when I first showed interest and began asking many questions about this guitar to the hassle free transaction and receiving a very well packed and very quickly delivered guitar. I am looking forward to doing business with him again, so thanks Erik!
